The Peterborough Agricultural Roundtable hosted local elected officials, staff, municipal candidates and agricultural leaders on a bus trip to visit three local farms on Thursday. The Tour was intended to familiarize participants with farming in the area, ensuring local decision-makers have a good understanding of agricultural issues.
Participants visited Millen Farms, Squirrel Creek Farms and Three Roads Farms over the course of the Tour. These operations cover dairy and chicken production, cash crops, grain drying and maple syrup. See pictures from the Tour HERE
They were also treated to a lunch including foods grown in the County and processed nearby. Featured were dairy products from Kawartha Dairy and Empire Cheese, whose milk is sourced from farms throughout the region. In addition, local tomatoes, eggs, apples and maple syrup were used as ingredients in sandwiches and dessert.
The Farm Showcase Tour will become an annual event, visiting different farms each year.
We are grateful that this event was made possible with sponsorship by Peterborough and the Kawarthas Economic Development.
