Peterborough County Cattlemen Bus Trip - 2026

Everyone's had a busy summer, why not treat yourself to a mini getaway to Western Ontario.  Once again this year, the Peterborough County Cattlemen have organized a 2-day Bus Trip, August 18 & 19, to a variety of stops throughout western Ontario. 

For a very reasonable price of $300-double occupancy, you can let someone else do the driving, have your accommodations booked and even enjoy a delicious meal.

44th Annual Peterborough County Cattlemen's Barbecue -Postponed until Monday August 3rd!

Our host for this year's barbecue is Jason McIntosh at his beautiful new farm on Matchett Line.

Activities begin at 1:00PM, with the Peterborough County 4-H Beef Club showing off their 4-H beef projects with showmanship and confirmation classes.  

Antique tractor show display to browse through out the afternoon.  Bring your own or come and browse.  

Dinner will be served, starting at 5:00PM - 7:00pm.  The menu consists of delicious Ontario raised, barbecued brisket, baked potatoes, baked beans, salad, dinner rolls & dessert.  

Stay for the auction where we will be auctioning a pair of tickets to a Toronto Blue Jays game, taking place on Sunday, August 16th, against the New York Yankees.  Generously donated by Darling Insurance.  

Plates and cutlery will be available, but in an effort to be environmentally friendly, we are asking guests to bring their own plates and cutlery.   There is lots of space available, to bring your own lawn chair to sit, enjoy your meal while listening to music.  

Tickets are available at the gate, $25 - Adult, $10 - Children (Ages 6 - 12), Children under the age of 6 , eat for FREE!  Cash or Debit ONLY.

See how aquaponics and hydroponics work together in a highly efficient, low-water, zero-discharge growing system, learn how tilapia and leafy greens are produced year-round, and bring your questions about their systems and plans for the future!

Rural Farm Safety

Come out to the Fire Safety Planning Event at the Norwood Fire Academy on July 11, 2026!  

Event is from 10am-2pm, and a light lunch will be provided.

The PCFA and OFA, with help from the Norwood Fire Academy, are proud to put on this community event about Rural Fire Safety and the Importance of having a Fire Escape Plan!

Growing Organic Grains and Exploring Plant Health with LoonSong Farm

Event date

Join Farms at Work for a visit with LoonSong Farm and Fifth Wind Farm, on July 14th from 6pm- 8pm for a 2-part farm visit.

Learn about the ins and outs of growing organic grains in Northumberland County, and also learn about how Brix testing can help you to measure plant health in your fields or gardens on any scale.

Paul Salanki of LoonSong will share his experiences growing organic grains – How is it different from conventional cropping? Hear about cover cropping and crop rotations, planting methods, accessing seed, and harvesting and marketing organic grains along with some of the challenges and complexities of this type of grain farming.

Part 2 of this tour will take us into an adjacent veggie garden, where we will discuss plant health (which is also a primary indicator of underlying soil health) measured by Brix testing, and have the opportunity to try out the measurement tools with several different vegetable garden plants. We will also discuss ways to build soil health (and therefore plant health) in gardens and fields. Ordering of Brix testing instruments will be available.
